About Us

Dear Readers,

Thank you for stopping by and allowing me to welcome you to KidzNews – the original newspaper for children.

WizeAz WelcomeI would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about KidzNews and our Mission Statement – to provide children with news from around the globe that inform and inspire! To present a picture of our world without commercials and without bias. When you strip away the advertising, the product placement and the subtle forms of marketing our world becomes rather inspiring! A Free Press for the children.

To explain KidzNews in one sentence, all I have to do is quote Wize Az, who said:

“KidzNews is the grown up newspaper for kids, and the kids’ newspaper for grownups!”

The articles are very carefully selected and then “kidisized”, to present a plain and logical, if that’s at all possible, picture of our world.

The writing style is as simple as possible, but not simpler; enough to provoke a question or two, even from the grown-ups. When the grown-up comes to take a look, then they too can learn something! By the way, grown-ups don’t really know everything! What?!

Anyway… moving on…

The design is very plain and simple: old-school. It’s like an “hommage” to what will soon be a forgotten medium – The Newspaper!

Jumbles How are youThis brings me to Leonardo (aka Wize Az or plain old Lenny) , our loveable egg-shaped character, who roams the pages of KidzNews. He is very well read and slightly over-educated and is named after Leonardo da Vinci. Once you get to know him, you will know why some call him Wize Az! Lenny is like a “highlighter” – he emphasizes things, which enrich the reading experience. Is Wize Az used as in “as wise as…” or is it just plain old “smarty pants”? His best friend is his dog, Jumbles – a dyslexic wonder pup! Yes, he is dyslexic and that’s why we have to figure out what he is saying – he speaks either backwards or all mixed up. Leonardo da Vinci used to write some notes and instructions backwards, so they were hard to read.

Wize Az and Jumbles are here to plant seeds of knowledge and curiosity.

If you are wondering what the strange letter on Leonardo’s chest is – it is the Greek letter “π” (pi), pronounced like in apple “pie”. Wize Az likes it, because many formulae in mathematics, science, and engineering involve π, which makes it one of the most important mathematical constants.

Thank you for your time and patronage.

Feel free to write to us with any thoughts and ideas you might have …

I hope you will enjoy Kidz News and share it with the kids of the world and the kids in all of us.

Yours Sincerely,

Bogi

  • The first and only printed copy of Kidz News was designed for a little rainbow princess named Zandra, she is the first kid reader.
  • The first and only copy is now in a vault at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean somewhere off the coast of Santa Monica – or is it?
  • Zandra is now grown up, is still a princess, is called Alexandra, and writes for KidzNews.

  • KidzNews has never been printed, except for that one issue in 1996.
  •  The character Leonardo is based on a drawing of a “pion” – an elementary particle in the late 70’s: A chemistry teacher was lecturing about how small and invisible these elementary particles were, when yours truly, being the smarty pants that he sometimes is, showed her a sketch of a “π +” meson, which is now has become Wize Az – our lovable mascot.
  • The designer of KidzNews is a procrastinator.
