Simple acts of kindness in a pix – Policemen caught over and above the call of duty

Ties a man's shoelaceTwo very simple, very wonderful and very human stories made their way around the world in the past few months. Two simple acts of kindness caught in two photographs. Both are featuring policemen; One in Toronto, last week and one in New York, last year.

The most recent one was taken in Canada. It shows the Toronto police officer helping tie an elderly man’s shoelaces. The officer’s name is Mark Borsboom. When asked, the Toronto Police Department said “He wanted to prevent him from tripping on his lace.”

Officer dePrimoThe second photograph was taken by Jennifer Foster of Florence, Arizona, was visiting the famous Times Square in New York, with her husband.

Officer Lawrence DePrimo, 25, approached the man with a pair of boots and knelt at his side to help him. Officer DePrimo was overheard saying, ‘I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you.’ The officer then squatted down on the ground and helped to put socks and the new boots on this man. Foster captured the touching exchange with her cellphone. Later it was found out that officer DePrimo had bought the boots especially for the homeless man. He had paid for the boots with his own money!

Here is a video from CBS with the story. The video might not be available in your viewing area.
